Since I can’t get to the music store in Rapid City, a friend picked me up another Generation D. Am glad to say, this one did not have any little plastic thingies left over from manufacturing, and did have a green fipple! Since I’m fond of my old one, even though the blade is dull and the whistle chiffy, I figured I’d tweek the new fipple with that sticky tack and switch the fipples! Ha! The new fipple was too small for the old whistle tube! How come? But it sounds sweet and doesn’t scream in the upper registers! Neat! Meanwhile, I’m excited about the Tully, and got a UPS tracer number from Gruhn Guitars for my new Larivee parlor guitar! This artist grant from the South Dakota Arts Council is great, even though I got it in literature, it pays for musical instruments! Now if I can think up a legitimate whistle project for the Bush Foundation or even for an across-state-lines project for down the road with the SDAC!

When I saw your “Another Generation” subject line, positioned so apropriately just below Eriks “My wife is in Labor” post, I thought you were going to offer some profound thoughts on the impending arrival of Eriks child.
As for your new whistle, I didn’t know Generations came with green fipples. Are you sure it’s a Generation? I know Feadogs have green fipples, and I think some of the Waltons do too.

Yep, this sucker does have a green fipple and that little shield thingie on the tube says “Generation D” on it! Only thing I can tell that’s different from my old one is that the fipples aren’t interchangeble!
I believe Generation makes a “Folk” whistle with a green fipple. Don’t know what the difference is (if any) besides the color.

The suggestion about Generation producing the green-fippled “folk” whistle (which almost sounds like a fancy breed of bird!), is correct.
The display boards in the stores are of two types, one exclusiveley for the “folk” whistle, and the other displaying the full range of available keys in both nickel (blue fipple), and brass (red fipple). The latter board refers to its contents as “flageolets” rather than whistles if I remember correctly.
Made the green fipple fit on the old batetred brass tube, put a little sticky-tac in the fipple, and boy oh boy, does this hybred generation sound great! Very sweet, almost cotton candyish! Whee!
