“Green Man” on Type O Negative’s October Rust I think has birds in it…I cant check it out though…'twas one of the CDs that was stolen from my car a few months ago that I never got around to replacing.
ok - I have a really obscure one.
A good friend, and fantastic mountain dulcimer player, David Schnaufer has a CD out called “Dulcimore”. A couple of the beginning, and the last cut on the CD were recorded outside, with katydids (cicadas) chirping in the background.
David said he had several complaints about the CD, that there was a “noise” on it. He said the complaints all came from “city folks”!! ![]()
not exactly an animal sound, but I thinkg a rapper DMX growls like a dog in some of his tracks.
as you can see, there’s a blackbird on the cd-cover. There’s a beautiful track where you can hear a blackbird sing, before Eoin begins to play his low whistle. They say the blackbird was actually singing outside the window. ![]()

Real or fake.
The Original Dixieland Jazz Band specialised in animal impressions.
Duke Ellington’s plunger mute specialists, Miley, Williams, Nanton et al all made trumpets and trombones growl.
The Bonzo Dog Band’s ‘Jollity Farm’.
Most Archie Shepp records contain horse farts and some mimic a dog being strangled.
I can’t be bothered checking but I bet there are loads of Spike Jones records featuring animals.
ohhhh- I just remembered another one:
“Ahab the Arab” by Ray Stevens - remember the camel named Clyde???
Missy’s favorite, “Muskrat Love”
And what about that sappy piece of bubblegum from the '70s…
I can’t remember the name but some of the words were,
“Lovin’ you, is easy 'cause you’re beautiful” It had birds.
I have to stop before I toss the cookies.
Is that a reel or a jig?
omg, that was so terrible..
remember how high she could sing?
just for you Flydood -
“Who Let the Dogs Out” by the Baja Men
Thus Cacked Henrietta - Ray Stevens
Smells Like Nirvana - Weird Al Yankovic
I Want a New Duck - Weird Al
Little Red Riding Hood - Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs (I be b-a-a-a-a-a-a-d!) ![]()
Ah, DOGS!
Fairy Stories . . . Peatbog Fairies. Somewhere on the first side. Lots of baying dogs.
Birds are on a couple of Will Millar’s CDs:
On The Lark in the Clear Aire - on track 1 The Lark in the Clear Aire/My Singing Bird there are birds chirping, and on track 9 Islands (a) Dark Island (b) Mist Covered Mountains (c) Rhumm and (d) Farewell to Tarwathie there are seagulls.
On Celtic Reverie - Women of Ireland track 2 Bird of Place - Where the Moorcock Crows/Ar Eirinn there’s the chirping birds again, and on track 6 Seascapes and Safe Harbours - Cliffs of Duneen/Carnlough Bay/Mingulay Boat Song/Tyree Love Lilt there’s the seagulls during Mingulay. Edited to add - also on Track 8 Atlantic Crossings - The Parting Glass/Holy Ground/Farewell Shamrock Shore/Women of Ireland (reprise) there are more seagulls.
On the Irish Rovers album Emigrate! Emigrate! there are seagulls and boat sounds at the end of side 1 of the LP. (One of these days I’m going to get this album on CD, because it’s so neat the way the songs all flow together without a break between the tracks, and having to go turn the record over kind of breaks the spell.)
How about All God’s Critters?
Martin Denny’s Quiet Village
Wasn’t there a version of “I’m a Hog For You” that had hog sounds (probably faked)?
Cantus Arcticus by Rautavera is largely composed around the sounds of animals in the arctic.
There’s loads of stuff by Frank Zappa – Lumpy Gravy leaps out immediately, with lots of pig noises on the second side. Evidently, around 1967 or 68, before the Grammies were broadcast on TV, Zappa was a presenter (Yeah, I know, right up there with the Hells Angels as “security” in the pantheon of bright ideas, but a helluva lot funnier). The audience got a bit unruly, and he asked them to calm down. Of course, they didn’t, so he made pig noises for awhile and then left.
AAAAGH! Yeah I’m a week late.
