No, I thought it would be in Holland, where there are plenty of tulips.
Then San Diego can’t be far behind. There are several ukulele clubs with a few hundred members, and a couple of ukulele makers here. Jake Shimabukuro played here last week for the nth time, and there have been a couple of uke festivals, including a world record attempt that missed with only ~300 players.
Did you know that Tiny Tim suffered his final fatal heart attack during a live performance of Tip-toe through the Tulips?
I should mention that a moderator of one of the main internet ukulele forums is also a long time Chiffer. You know who you are. ![]()
Somehow I resisted the uke urge. But having seen him, I have to say, Jake is something very special. I was mesmerized, and can’t remember coming out of a concert in a better state of mind.
Go ukers! ![]()
Big uke clubs in Durham and now
in Wilmington, NC. Looks like it’s
spreading!
Oops. Oh well… it was fun while
it lasted.
Ukulele is just TOO much fun! You can get a cheap but very playable soprano uke for around $50,setup with upgraded strings and shipped.
You think WHOA is bad? Uke acquisition obsession disorder is MUCH more costly, with designer or vintage ukes costing into the tens of thousands of dollars.
Check out www.ukuleleunderground.com which is sort of the Chiff and Fipple of the Uke world. Excellent forums, how-to videos etc.
No, I’m not the person that Guru was referring to.
