"And that's the way it is." Farewell, Walter Cronkite

His voice was the voice of my childhood. He will be missed.

Yep.
“the news” sure ain’t what it use to be…

It took me a long time to figure it out.

I was sittin’ home alone one night in L.A.,
Watchin’ old Cronkite on the seven o’clock news.

From Dylans album.Desire…a gorgeous album but I often wondered about Cronkite..
now I know.

May he rest in Peace.

D, you just had to get the bob in there :poke:

that’s why he’s great- he’s always applicable

My Hero…over to the you tube thing…

I’m not saying a word. Not one.

That’s because you have more self-restraint Izzy-(I couldn’t resist)

It just occurred to me- Cronkite won’t get a fraction of the send off on TV that MJ did.
:really:

That’s what I’ve had running through my head for the last couple of days, too.

And that is a real shame. Cronkite deserves much more coverage.

I expect journalists on TV and elsewhere will make sure he gets considerable coverage.

When I was little, I had some confusion over Walt Disney and Walter Cronkite. Seems like old guys named Walt were avuncular. In those days, a guy could aspire to be a beloved uncle with a pipe and Walt would be his name.

As an adult, I am uneasy that anyone would put too much trust in a newsreader, but I guess they don’t anymore, come to think of it. The early guys like Murrow, Cronkite, Huntley and Brinkley are gone. Now we have sauna boy Cooper and suck-ups like the latest version of Brian Williams (who I used to like until he crawled through the White House for his GE boss Immelt to submit to Obama). In fairness, regulated tv of the day led to a sharper distinction between the news division and everything else.

It might be Dan Rather, and 60 Minutes fault for taking newsman (and newswoman) credibility and ruining it with hit pieces and agenda-driven “reporting.” Rather took folksy credibility and made you feel bad for ever granting it.

Wait, am I goin’ Procto?? RIP Walter.

CBS did a really nice piece on him last night.
