made myself a chanter cutoff switch.
got a 1/4 turn ball stop valve like for natural gas lines (3/8" to 1/2"), sweat joined, so there are no threads.
got a 3/8" dowell, and an 11/32" piece of brass tubing.
cut a 1/2" long piece of the dowell, and drilled an 11/32" hole in it.
used this to plug the 3/8" opening
cut a 1" long piece of the tubing and superglued it into the wooden plug.
wrapped waxed cord onto the end of the tubing.
put on a prettier handle to the valve itself.
The tubing end goes into the bag and is the same as the end of the chanter that used to go in there.
The chanter plugs into the other end of the valve as if it were the bag opening.
only adds 2" between the bag and chanter
works like a charm.
and to think, i was going to try to rig something with kinkable tubing inside brass tubing…
sigh…now if only i could make a damn reed…
