An Intercontinental Duet

Happy Friday–

Here is a very rough draft of a tune I made up recently. Just for fun, I wrote it down, made up a chord chart, did a very quick and dirty recording over a click track using Audacity (I don’t know how that flange effect got in there, I swear), then emailed the whole kaboodle to a good friend of mine who happens to be an excellent jazz piano player. A couple weeks later, I got this back from him. The nifty thing is that I am in Wyoming, and he is Malawi, Africa.

Now, this is just a first draft; also, the synth strings are going to go away (possibly to be replaced with the real thing) at some point. Still, I’m pretty excited about how it’s coming together.

This “trading music by email” is all fairly old hat for some of you, of course, but once in a while I am struck by the fact that technology is actually pretty cool. And I can now add “Playing a duet with someone on another continent” to the long list of odd things I have done.

Whew, yawning silence (or maybe just yawning) from my Chiffbrethren.

Is it the synthesized piano and strings, or the extreme reverb and flange effect on the whistle? At least I didn’t put the word “Celtic” in the title!

Have fun–

Really lovely!
And I must agree! Technology has really come along way! And the reverb/flanger sctually sounds really good on this
