An Infusion of Insanity - semi-OT sound clip enclosed....

We need more laughing faces here, and I don’t mean emoticons.

In pursuit of that goal…

…from the folks who brought you Melody Kiss the Quaker…

…from the makers of Drinking Straw Chanters…

…from the performing duet that brought you the Small World Slide…

We proudly (?) present:

Act I: The gifting of the flute

http://www.rit.edu/~eeg6662/cf/chiff_humor_1a.mp3 (931kb)

Act II: Performance of a classic Irish piece, with slide accompaniment

http://www.rit.edu/~eeg6662/cf/chiff_humor_1b.mp3 (880kb)

And for a limited time, receive a bonus! A portrait of the artist himself, during a moment of profound musical insight. Please, in respect for the artist’s craft, please wait to view the portrait until after the Acts have begun.

This performance was…er, performed… as an inaugural …performance… to celebrate the completed construction of the artist’s new studio. Recorded live in December of 2002.

…and hopefully the artist will be as amused as I am and not get back at me for posting this…

That was…er…enlightening, Ava! The heights to which one can aspire…

I am truly inspired. I was about to give up all hope of learning flute, until I heard those clips. Now I know what I can achieve! Thanks for sharing!

Very funny Ava.

Now who was that funky bodhran player? It was bodhran wasn’t it? :boggle:

I actually have a separate folder in my hard drive for the strange sound/video files I’ve collected since joining this Whistle Board. Besides the various pieces played on candy slide whistle, straw chanter, etc, I still have Greg’s (can’t remember which greg) video file of him playing Sally Gardens on his tiny keychain whistle. That last one was a classic, and I’m still amazed the maker of that keychain actually made the whistle playable and more or less in tune.

Thanks Beth! It’s been so long since you posted, I thought you were gone. I’m glad you’re back!

Ava, your back!

“What about my back?” she asks testily.

Oops. My mistake. Typo there. Let me try this again.

Ava, you’re back!

I for one, have missed you.

Best wishes,
Jerry

P.S. Tuaz, et al. (Tony Higgins?) any chance there’s a place all such humorous clips could be posted together? Archived for easy access? I would love to hear them.

Ah HA!!!

I suspected what I was listening to was nose flutes.
I followed your instructions and viewed the image last..

That was great!!!

Now try “Somewhere Over the Rainbow with them” Hillarious!!!
Hey may have a new thing going for sessions.
Add a few Kazoos for drone effects and you have a great sound!!!
Or a great laugh!

Laura

Welcome back, Ava!

You put a grin on my face. You have got to be C&F’s equivalent to Frank Zappa. Loved Merrily Kissed the ‘Quacker’, too, BTW.

Best,
N

 Thanks for the much needed smile and laugh Beth! Can’t wait to see what happens at the next GRM Session. Kazoos could indeed be, um, interesting…

Sara

Thanks, Ava, for this priceless gift. You’ve given me two definitive versions of rare Irish songs that I hope, someday, I will be able to play with such perfection. The call of the nose flute and slide whistle is, like the Sirens of ancient myth, irresistible. I am filled with longing, and not a little amour for the players of such exquisite music. They are gods.

kiss kiss,

Cara

Cara--

Shucks, ma’am, twernt nothin.

As usual I can’t load the sound files, but I remember, ah, how I remember…

Waiting for May–
Tom
