Some of you may remember my whistle-choosing thread and poll I had a while back. Well, I got the Goldie Low F.
Here, as the title of the thread suggests, is an exhaustive demonstration of the Goldie Low F. It’s about 8 minutes long, and I demonstrate all the goodness of the whistle to the best of my ability. My time and embellishments on faster tunes are not up to professional snuff, but the review will still give you a very good idea of the responsiveness, range, tone, and octave shift of this whistle. There are no effects used, except for a little bit at the end, and I use a variety of mics and mic positions, as well as varying my embouchure at different points, so you can hear the difference that makes.
My biggest hope is that it is a decisive help in people’s consideration of a Goldie. For those who are thinking about getting one and have never played one or feel like they haven’t heard enough of one in one place.
I was frustrated in my search/decision making because I couldn’t play the whistle myself, and I also felt like I couldn’t hear enough of the whistle from one player in an unaccompanied setting. I took a leap of faith, and it was worth it, but my hope is that people will be able to watch the video and feel confident about a decision.
Maybe I’ll record something with some accompaniment or do something shorter/better in the future.
I know! It’s a sweet whistle. I got one in F because my F needed replacing more than my D, although I’ve been wanting to replace both. Now that I’ve played the F, I know I’ll be going for Goldie on the D as well.
