Well, the ceilidh we played Saturday night was a great night out…even if we did play for nearly four hours all in all.

The biggest success, strangely - in a Welsh village hall after all - was our rendition of a Breton An Dro (I always write it in two words as one word gives some confusion with US sites selling embarrassing products :roll: ). It was quite a sight with 100 plus people “going through the moves”.

Question - does Zub (or any other lurking Francophile) happen to have some good music to add to the set…?

I’ve got a 3.7 Mb folder full of Breton music in midi format (which you can print out using e.g. MidiNotation), and a 1.95Mb folder in Noteworthy format.

Some of the tunes are in both folders.

If yer want 'em, I can send them, but they’ll take a while to download.

Or , I can send them on a CDR, 'cos I’m only just down the road (Dyfed).

Also, you could ask our fellow chiffer and specialist of the biniou-koz Sylvain Barou (more on the flute board). He plays professionnaly in Festou-noz.

Well, in that case… I had a freebie lesson at a folk festival the other week (and, well, shall I say I made a much better job of testing the whistles on the Hobgoblin stand…). However, my six year old son is a natural (all that playing with trucks on the floor as a toddler…brrmmmmm).

But I baulk at paying out a lot of money for what would no doubt be used to break windows, clock his sisters etc as small boys do. So, do you recommend or have any knowledge of traveller didges (ease of play etc) or any other ideas? Save me from the cornet, please!

Make yer own didge’ for a few pence!

I made a sliding didge, http://www.mills.edu/LIFE/CCM/DIDJERIDU/technical/making_slide_didj.html, that plays in about 5 keys.

Alter the mouthpiece using beeswax or if it’s going to get dirty, and needs cleaning often - use left over 1/2" wide pieces of pipe inside until it’s playable. Glue the bits in place with either impact adhesive or a glue gun.

Or cleave a 3"dia log, and remove the inside until 1/2" of wall remains.

Seriously though, had a look at the sliding didge instructions - looks like a summer holiday project…just finding pipes that will fit the bill that is!
