an approach to variations on Irish music on the pipes

I’ve posted a video on YouTube of some ways to vary the first phrase of the reel The Earls Chair.

It seems that over the years a lot of beginners I’ve encountered have regarded the idea of variation a mysterious Dark Art or something and I just wanted to demonstrate some approaches to it.

These principles could be applied to any reel, jig, or whatever.

Excellent, panceltic! Don’t post too many of these lessons - I’ll be out of a job.

Thanks panceltic, that is very interesting and informative, not to mention fun. I just spent an hour working on it.

Cheers, David

Thanks a lot pancelticpiper! It sure helps to make sure what kind of ornaments one likes and which not so much.

Thanks for all the positive comments!

I kinda expected to get crucified here by an arch-traditional lynch mob of sorts.
