an angle-neck Dixon

As you might know I got a non-tunable Dixon low D from pthouron because the entire head had broken off.

Well, I was able to use a little bit of pipe glue and black (electrical) tape to make it perfectly playable and you couldn’t really tell it had been broken. Then a few days ago I was outside playing and the heat (I guess that’s what it was) made it come aloose, and I did it again, but it wasn’t as strong this time. So I used packing (clear) tape on it, over and over in loops until the whistle had a thick (about 1/4”) girth of tape around it. Then I was trying to pack it up into a box and I thought mabey I should just take the head off. I pulled really hard but couldn’t get it off, but it did end up in a weird crooked shape. I picked it up to play it, just to see what it sounded like, and immiedately noticed that it was easier to hold and finger, and the sound is actually louder (?). So I took off most of the clear tape, and bent it some more, and then used a lot of black tape to cover it up, and this is what I ended up with:


It looks ugly, but it plays, dammit. Still in tune. I thought it wouldn’t be. And it’s actually easier than it was before. :slight_smile:

Colin Goldie had pictures on his site a while back of experimental Overton whistles that he’d made and I think there were a couple similar to what you have made. Great minds think alike :wink:

Actually, the number of holes in Canadian geese is dependent mostly on the kind of weapon used. :smiling_imp:

Most noticable is the one troublesome hole that leaves ample evidence on the lawn.

Gotta say, though, that the neck resemblance is obvious. The geese are always in tune, I might add. :slight_smile:
