Am I lucky or what?

Recent conversation between me and my mom . . .

Mom: " . . . So do any of your other friends play a musical instrument?"

Me: “Well besides the guitar (which everybody and their mother plays) the only other person I know is Bryan. He plays the violin.”

Mom: “Oh that’s neat! Have you two ever played together?”

Me: “We always talked about it. I remember when I bought my first whistle that very same week he was getting his violin refurbished after about 3 years of idleness since high school. I don’t know what he’s done since then but I really do want him get into trad and play some tunes with me.”

Mom: “Oh my god if you ever need practice room tell him to come over our house and play. I’d love that.”

Me (happily bewildered): “Will do.”

So as I found out my mom apparently LIKES to hear me play. I suppose it’s all relative. To put it into perspective I spent most of my high school days in a metal band that frequently practiced in my living room. So I guess Irish music is a welcome change for her. Still, I feel lucky

Indeed you are!

And so is she.

Your Mom’s a good’un.. I’d keep her happy if I were you!

My only wish is that my friend has kept up with the enthusiasm that we both felt for Irish trad over a year ago. Something tells me that’s not the case however. :frowning:

It’s quite lonely over here with not much in the way of local players or local sessions that I can observe.

I’ll second that.
