Piper style or finger tips? I tried piper style and can’t quite manage it - my fingers don’t have the speed and flexibility that way. When the reach becomes too much, I curl my right-hand ring finger under (behind whistle) and use pinky for the last hole. Reach even longer - like on a low D? Do the same with left hand.
Yes, I’ve heard (read) other people tell they do this as well. I rather like the relaxed piper-like grip and even use it on high whistles. My fingers move faster that way

I notice that people who can play rolls well have better rolling with the piper grip.
