What is the best key of whistle for this song? I thought it was C but I’m not sure…
Edit - for that matter, this entire CD (“Another Sky”) seems to be in C…Might need to pick up a Hoover C too. Gosh I never knew Colorado could be so dangerous…

Sorry I can’t help you with that tune, I don’t have that CD yet! Glad to hear from another Altan fan. I just got their new CD “The Blue Idol” and it’s s-o-o-o-o-o good. We went to see them in Nashville in March, and the show was amazing. After the concert, my wife and kids talked to Mairead (the lead singer, ok I can’t spell her last name!) and had their picture made with her. She was most pleasant and gracious, I was most impressed with her and the band, not just as talented musicians but as people as well. End of gushing!
Hey Bartleby!
I’m actually a brand new Altan fan. I heard “Island Girl” on Liveireland.com once (and fortunately Iwas recording to MD at the time!) and really liked it. Then later I was in Media Play looking at their dismal Irish section, trying to figure out how to spend a $15 gift certificate (there are NO Media Plays in Idaho!) and found Another Sky. I am definitely hooked!
Though it is tough to play along nicely because the only C whistle I have is a Susato! I might have to resort to recorder…hehe
I think Ciaran Tourish plays Grinters. You might try an untweaked or lightly-tweaked Generation C (in brass, of course) and see how that works for you.
“The Blue Idol” is great, btw!
Grinter is the name of a whistlemaker and/or line of whistles. The one I saw Ciaran Tourish playing in Nashville was made of wood. When I asked about it on this board, I was told it was an ‘F’.
