Hope I’m not teaching anyone’s granny to suck eggs… over the weekend I discovered that Sainsbury’s supermarket are selling 100ml bottles of pure almond oil with vitamin E (tocopherol) for £2.99 in their healthcare section (aromatherapy). Just thought I’d share.
The problem with almond oil from supermarkets, or any almond oil sold for massage or aroma therapy, is that too often the oil has been adulterated. The oil might have scent added to it, which could mask a turn towards the rancid. If the oil has vitamin E added then there is the further chance that the oil is old.
A small bottle of almond oil, the thin, pure kind sold at pharmacies, will last for years in the refrigerator. A small drop of vitamin E will help keep the oil from going off. Very little oil is used on a flute; it doesn’t make sense to save a little money by buying cheaper oil.
