Allright, Im obsessed, need some help.

Well it happened. Im addicted to my whistle. Man, this place really knows how to feed an addiction!

First off, Im new here, though I’ve been reading quite a bit. Ive been a musician most of my life but recently I started vending at celtic events, Scottish games, Irish festivals, etc…(not selling whistles of course). I finally gave in and at 12:10 am Christmas morning, gave in and ordered an unfinished Clarke original in D and C. I got them out of the box and it was eerie how natural it felt to me and how fun its been. Since that time, I’m having a hard time putting it down and I find myself fiending like a smoker for it, when I sitting around, wishing I had it with me.

Now, Ive got a ways to go naturally in my learning. But I have a pretty good idea of what Im looking for in my next whistle, which Im dying to buy. Im most interested in doing Irish Rock/Punk stuff, along the lines of the Pogues, Tossers, Dropkick Murphys, Murder the Stout, that sort of thing. Ive searched through the reviews and am a little more confused than I was to start with. So, in yalls (sorry, from Texas) opinion, what whistle would fit the bill the best.

A regular D whistle
Im preferring a less breathy sound.
Im ok with it not being very air efficiant, Im having enough trouble not overblowing as it is.
Would prefer something loud.
It being mellow isnt as important as much as it being pure in tone. I want a mellow whislte later but for now I want the " rock n roll" whistle. Not neccessarily shrill per say, but easy to cut through a mix.
Preferably to be tunable or made to be tunable and would like a plastic head.

And Ive heard some nice comments from people about the Freeman Tweaks. Im on board with the idea that the whistle has been tweaked to it full potential by someone who knows what they’re doing.

Custom whistles are a bit out of my range at present, though Im sure theyre nice.

So what so yall think, Im keen on hearing other people thoughts on this.

In the meantime, Its off to play the trusty Clarke in D.

Alex!

A susato fits your description.

A plastic whistle isn’t going to be much use in a rock n roll brawl though. I’d go with a tweaked Feadog…

if you can locate a Feadog Pro (with the poster putty tweak added on), I’d go with that. I really like mine.

How about a Susato and a crow bar

Maybe a low whistle would be better in a fight…
