Ain't Nuthin But A She Thing

I just got this compilation cd a couple of days ago and I haven’t stopped listening to it.

It came out before Lilith Fair but nobody noticed it. I’m so happy I finally got it.

Annie Lennox, Patti Smith, Queen Latifah, Melissa Etheridge…

To keep things on topic, there is an Irish song with low whistle, Women Of Ireland, by Sinéad O’Connor (which I will now have to learn). It’s haunting.

Yup, great tune. Sounds good on a high-D too.

Does Sinéad sing this one? I’ve never heard it except as an air. Do you know who’s playing the whistle?

There’s a nice flute version of it by James Galway and Phil Coulter on thier “Legends” album, (titled Mna na h-Eireann)

Joannie Madden also does a REALLY nice version of it on the high-D whistle on her album “Song of the Irish Whistle”.

in memory and prayer to the Cumann na mBan

Yes. She sings it. Her voice is so suited to these types of songs, I think. It tugs at your heart and pulls you into the song and you forget where you are.

The liner notes say the whistle was played by Frank Gallagher (viola too). The whistle playing is in the background and not very prominent but it’s beautiful.

Probably not a good tape to listen to in the car :astonished:
