How do you determine where to add stuff to a tune? I’ve got Walton’s 110 Slow Airs and the dots are pretty plain. I’ve been playing #30 Gile Mear; I really like this tune and have added a few cuts here and there but it still seems a little plain, nice, but plain. Is there a pattern I should be looking for, or is it just where ever you can change the way you play it?

If you’re not familiar enough with ITM to know how to ornament or add variations, you should listen to some sung versions. This is especially true with song airs like Mo Ghile Mear. My favourite singer for this tune is Diarmuid Ó Súilleabháin.
