Abell's G "whistle/flute"

Exciting news (for me, anyway):

Chris Abell is developing a head joint for his G Boehm system flute. Later this summer, he will also be offering flute head joints to fit onto the body of the low G whistle body which he already sells.

A person could have the G body with two heads (whistle and flute) and switch as she or he wanted. I haven’t heard a price yet (for the flute head joint; the low G whistle in African blackwood and silver is $400.00), but I’ll let you know.

  1. It’s a closed-door session;
  2. They’re answering questions together;
  3. Neither of them will be under oath;
  4. There will be no recordings (paper or otherwise) made of the session
    ???

So you reckon two heads are better than one?

…incidentally, where I’m from TommyK is slang for Tomato Ketchup.

Just thought you might like to know :roll: .

Yes, that is exciting. One supposes the flute head
may cost less than the whistle head.

I would assume the flute head would cost less, though I’m not sure exactly what Mr. Abell plans to do with it (raised lip plate, silver fittings, etc) which might affect the price.

Matt - thanks; now I know I’m known in some parts as a condiment!

I wouldn’t bet on it.

Loren

No, I wouldn’t either. But if the price holds
at 400 that would be fine. A good G flute
at that price would be welcome.

Does he make his whistles conical bore? A flute head for a low whistle isn’t really a new invention.

No, cylindrical whistles. His work is very fine.

Do you mean G simple system?

I’m confused too . . . Abell’s not making simple-system flutes that we know of . . . nor does he make a Boehm G . . .

Is this an all-points-bulletin? Is Chris entering the simple-system flute market?

Stuart

My understanding of his message to my inquiry is that he is going to be making G Boehm system flutes, whatever that beast would be.

As a side effect, he will make a G head joint later in the summer which will fit onto his low G whistle body, creating a simple-system G flute, but it will (obviously, since his whistle bodies are cylindrical) not be conical.

The other piece of news is that the head joint will cost close to or right at the price of his current C head joints (i.e., $800.00 for a simple system head joint).

Save the pennies!

Perhaps poor Mr Bush is praying to Mammon .

I don’t think Chris will be making G Boehm flutes. He does, however, make alto flute headjoints.

Well, I could have misunderstood but, again, it’s my understanding that he will be making G flutes. I suppose those interested should ask him directly.

Sorry if I’ve confused anyone (besides myself!).
