Ok, I gave ABC another shot. However, I get the following message when I try to print:
“Error 41 in ABC staff drawing routines, line 48. Check the notation for completeness. Missing or incomplete lines may cause this error. Check position 273 in the ABC note text. Drawing stopped.”
Is there an easy fix for this?

Do you see the sheet music complete before printing? Try copy & pasting it to WordPad first, before printing. I had a slightly different problem, but it worked for me.
Post your abc tune and let us have a look at the text.
This is for Humours of Ennistymon…but you probably would have figured that out…I’m trying to print off a set of jigs in G…they nor any other tune will print, separately or loaded as a set.

Jack, You didn’t provide any header information for the body of the tune, so I provided my own and added them to your text. ABC2WIN didn’t complain at all about drawing the page.

In both cases ABC2WIN was able to display the page for me without error. I’m not sure what’s causing your problem. Usually problems displaying a page are caused by spurious characters in the body of the tune.
Try loading these singly and see if you get better results.

Are you using the full, registered version? It won’t print with the trial version until you pay the fee for the full version.

My version is registered. I am considering un-installing the program and then re-installing it. I assume my registration code will work again. I’ve tried everthing under the sun that I can think of and nothing works to get these suckers to print…

I just came across this thread via a google search, since I am battling with the same error coming up in ABC2WIN. The error shows up when the program tries to draw a page, so its not a printing problem as such. It refuses to draw any page, always showing the same “error 41”, when trying to interpret the notation. Several uninstalls and reinstalls did not help, everything seems to be fine, registration is fine, notation font is fine. It used to be running fine in the past.
So I wonder if you found a solution and got ABC2WIN working.
Or anybody else went through this?

Well I can now answer my own question…
I had a reply from Jim Vent, author of ABC2WIN.
I forgot to say I am using windows XP.
Jim writes:
The error message you report usually indicates a problem with display
setting compatibility in XP with ABC2Win. Here is one solution which
has worked for others and information about the preview version,
which fixes minor bugs:I. Set Compatibility Values in XP:
You can tell XP to tell it to run abc2win with special settings.
- Locate abc2win.exe. (Default location is c:\program
files\abc2.- Right click on abc2win.exe.
- Choose properties.
- Click on the Compatibility tab.
- Click Run in 256 colors.
II. Check out the preview.
A preview of a minor update has been available for quite some
time. It’s fully functional but I have not had a chance to
convert it into full release. See > www.abc2win.com/preview/ > for
information about the changes and to download. Your registration
will be picked up by the new version.
Having done so it works now, but the whole system changes to 256 colours while ABC2WIN is running.

Wow, thanks guys, I had my version making the same error, for the past few months. It used to work with the initial WinXP, but I think one of the updates along the way changed something in the display drivers.

I’ve tried out the solution Hans posted to the problem of ABC2WIN not drawing the tune in Windows XP, however I now get the error number 3121. It seems to think there’s an over-long bar which won’t draw, but I’ve checked the ABC and it’s all correct (being one of the sample files provided with the software). Has anyone else had any success with this?

Have you tried doing what Hans did, and write to ABC2WIN’s author? I have had no problems with it on WinXP(SvcPk2).

Excellent user interface, prints without any hassle etc.
I concur with Gary. ABC Navigator has a very friendly interface. Unfortunately, it is still in beta and has no Help menues, so I still have to go back to Norbeck’s ABCMUS for help with abc notation.
