Whistles loss,Songwritings gain…
A man worthy of respect whose recent treatment at the hands of the U.S. heavies was … well, distasteful.

Yeah, I think we overwhelmed the board software. My first attempt to post failed due to no response from the server, so I retried immediately and it went through. ![]()
He says he’s gonna sue. I hope he does.
The funny thing is, if he’s really such a dangerous man, why did they let him board the plane? And did they send him back in another commercial plane, or did they have to put him in a special millitary plane? Did they have to escort him back to England?
But in any case, i wish he’d lighten up and sing a little.
Actually i’m posting from my time machine, from an undisclosed location back in August 2002.
Did it take long to find me? I asked the faithful light.
Did it take long to find me and are you gonna stay the night?
The authorities just remember there’s a lot of bad, and beware.

Has he ever renounced his support for the fatwah declaring that a Salman Rushdie should be murdered?
I never thought much of him as a musician anyway.

This is interesting:

Still a relatively new Muslim, but being a well-known personality, I was invited to join a letter campaign requesting the publishers of the controversial novel to think again. I did, but they ignored the plea.
Suddenly the media tried linking me to supporting the Iran’s Fatwa on Salman Rushdie. The fact is that I never did support the Fatwa. Such is the irony. You wouldn’t ask a Christian to deny one of the Ten Commandments; equally, as a new Muslim, I couldn’t deny that the Quran, just like Leviticus in the Bible, forbade blasphemy and if there is no repentance, made it a capital offence.
Fair enough. The details never do make it into the papers, do they?
So I apologize for wrongly thinking ill of him for condemning Rushdie and “The Satanic Verses” (which, BTW, I not only bought but actually read).
However, I still don’t think much of his music - in fact, the Newsday article to which the good Father links sums it all up for me.

This whole world has gone crazy. Not sure about the sentiment though…
1st American Security Service Person: ‘This is obviously a really dangerous man (for whatever reason) we can’t let him in here’
2nd American security Person: ’ What shall we do with him then’
1st American security Person: 'Oh, send him back to the Brits, they’re far too polite to say anything.
Duh, the guy is an old hippy singer who sings about moon beams, and children, if he went around waving a Kalashnikov and agreeing with the Bin Ladens of this world it would be different. Until I am told differently, I think we outa give this guy a break…
I like Cat Stevens.
