A Special Whistle

Hi,
Can anyone offer any advice on buying a good whistle as a present. My wife, who for some years now has been a closet whistler, is coming up to the big 40 in a few months time.
She has already let it be known that a rather special whistle might be a good idea as a present (high D). Something in wood I think would be fine. Any suggestions bearing in mind that the birthday is five months away and we live in the Outer Hebrides?

If you want wood, an excellent choice might be one of Ralph Sweet’s blackwood whistles - see his website - but be aware that some folks think a wood whistle sounds “recorderish”.

There are many marvellous high D whistles, in everything from plastic to sterling silver, but a really nice birthday gift in my opinion would be a Colin Goldie Overton D anodized in her favorite color. Again, there’s a website you can preview them on. Whether five months would be sufficient time to obtain one I can’t say, but if there’s a way to help, I’m sure Brigitte or Colin would find it - they’re just that sort of folks.
