A request for assistance -- RAFFLE CLOSED

The raffle is closed to further entries. The drawing will take place on Monday, Feb 2, and will be performed by a member of the Alcott Board. Thank everyone for participating. I will announce the winner of the two Alba whistles following the drawing.

----------------------------- CLOSED -------------------------------------------

The Louisa May Alcott Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City, Kansas, has been crippled by the failure of the boiler that heats the school building. This center provides immeasurable help to artists who wish to set out on their own to perform their art, be it music, stage, or media, and while the boiler is not working, the school cannot function.

I have been led to understand by Mr. Chuck Green, one of the directors of the school, that repair/replacement of the old boiler will cost in excess of $5000.

A while back, I bought an Alba low D non-tunable from one of you fine folks, and would now like to raffle it off, all proceeds to go to the school. I will only tell them that the funds come from Chiff and Fipple, and that so many of you were the wonderful folks who contributed to the fund for Mr. Chris Johnson of Comedia Sans Arte.

The Alba is in excellent condition, fully in tune, louder than any other low D I’ve heard to date, and fairly low on air requirements. A raffle ticket will cost $10.00 USD. I would be willing to bet that if asked, Stacey can make it tuneable for a small sum, if desired. I believe the retail value of the Alba is something like $125.00 USD. I will sweeten the pot by shipping the whistle to Stacey, myself, for conversion, if desired (and if she will do it), and I will pay for that conversion.

You may purchase raffle tickets by doing a “send money” of $10 per ticket on PayPal to sales@serpentmusic.com, or by sending a check or money order to Serpent Music, labelled “Alba Raffle”.

ADDED - You may now click the WWW link below to go to my mainpage and get tickets from there.

The Alcott Center is a worthy cause, and the Alba is a wonderful whistle. You can help one, and possibly get the other for a very small sum. I will pay shipping anywhere in the world out of my own pocket.

Thank you for your kindness,
Bill Whedon

(edit) The raffle ends at 11:59 PM CST on 31 January, 2004 (/edit)
(edit) Please don’t forget to include your shipping address when you get your ticket(s). I mean, if you’re the winner, you’d like to have the whistle sent to ya, eh? (/edit)

Howdy,

I just bought a “ticket”. Good luck with the raffle. It’s great to see folks spearheading things like this.

Best,

Dave

Got mine, too.

I received a note from Stacey today - she will install a tuning slide on the whistle if the winner desires one! What a wonderful lass! And, as I said, I’ll post it to her myself, and pay the postage to the winner. You folks are the greatest!
Bill

:astonished: Bump :sunglasses:

Hi. I sent mine in.
Randy Orman

If I don’t win, is there a consolation prize?

Very funny, Randy. Sure. You can console yourself with the thought that some other nice, generous person from Chiff and Fipple won it. (seriously, thanks to all who donate!)
Bill

I’m bumping this back up a bit…I had nearly forgotten to enter.

So Bill,
 is this still going on?
If so when is it ending :astonished:

Hi, Stacey! Yep, it’s still going on. I’ll accept the last entry at 11:59 PM Central time on January 31. I will, as always, have an impartial person do the actual number selection. Not issuing numbers this time - just writing the names down in order of entry. Soon as we have a winner, I will ship the whistle to you for the installation of the slide (THANK YOU! again), and will send it with a shipping label to the winner, so s/he can get it quickly.

Again, to all of you who are participating, a huge THANKS! - Alcott Center helps so many people, and you are responsible for helping continue that great work!

You’re some very cool folks!

Bill Whedon

Just bought my ticket!

Thanks Bill and Stacey, for doing all of this. It’s a great cause, even if I don’t win the whistle…

But BOY!! Would I like to win that whistle!

Yer never know yer luck Ifin yer don’t gota ticket yer don’t gota chance :imp:
But you have now

Just got my ticket!

I live in the UK and have a paypal account. I tried to send $10 and got refused by my card company but then I also got a message saying the funds have been sent so maybe yes maybe no I have a ticket. I have used paypal to pay a seller in Hong Kong without trouble.

brian

Brian, I haven’t received a PayPal from you, so it would be good to go up there and see what’s going on. Gary’s went through fine (Thanks, Gary!). I’m going to put a button on my mainpage for this raffle to make things easier for people who wish to donate. It’ll be up by tomorrow morning. I put my WWW link back up so you can get there easily.

Generally, if you haven’t heard from me by reply with your PayPal stuff quoted, then I haven’t received it. Exceptions are, of course, snailmail, and personally handing me money for it.

Thanks to you, and to everyone, for the wonderful generosity! It’s starting to look as if we’ll actually make a dent in the heating system cost! Y’all are the best!
Cheers,
Bill Whedon

Sorry for jumping back in so quickly, but as promised, I’ve added info on my mainpage for the raffle, plus a picture of the Alba and a button that takes you right to PayPal for a ticket (or more). I thought it was important to do that quickly as possible.

Alcott does so much good, and not just for the Kansas City communities, but for anyone who needs a “leg up” in performing arts. Your help will mean a lot to so many people!

Thanks again,
Bill Whedon

Bump. Only 8 days to go. That Alba’s a mighty nice whistle!

Just got my tickets. Finally, an OT thread I don’t have to worry about.

This is the second time Bill has done someone locally a favor, and spread his work (or in this case Stacy’s work) about.

Thanks Bill, and keep us informed

Just purchased mine! oooooooo… I can FEEL it in my hands now… visualising … sending good energy… win…

Great job on the auction Bill. It’s nice to have those out there who give a darn ain’t it?

Take care all,
John

I have bought a ticket.
Hmm, perphaps this is my lucky day (and perhaps the 31st will be even luckier  )
Keep up the good work Bill
