Greetings,
In some previous posts, there have been discussions on what microphones and equipment to be used for multitrack home recording. We have the serendipity of having some very experienced people in these matters
share some of their recommendations, rationale and personal choices in equipment.
During my “free” time on and off the past few weeks I have been researching for a text that would be a good “beginner/intermediate” volume that would be comprehensive enough topiece together the various subtopics and areas that are inherent in such a broad subject. I think I found such a book.
The book is called “Home Recording Power” by Bil Milstead (published 2001). It discusses such topics as
-how to make the acoutics in your space work for you
- master recording techniques for various types of instruments & for voice
- what is MIDI and how it works
- digital vs. analog recording
- audio engineering 101
- recording & mixing
- tracking tips and techniques
For software it does lean towards the “Sonar” program (as it even provides a tutorial on recording using it)
All in all, I have found it very informative, easy to read, and broad reaching in its scope.
When you come across a good thing, it’s nice to share it with others. For those interested in this topic, I hope I can save you the time of research or frustration of reading multiple texts that don’t put it all together as nice as this book does.
