A few pictures from Ireland

Ok…

Here I am with Steve inside his shop…I had been awake for two days.

Here’s the building where Shannaquay is…Shannaquay is on the right side. Steve and I are standing in the doorway.

After some rest, here I am about a half a mile from the center of Dingle…doesn’t it look like Florida?

Here’s Richard (the one in the middle) having some fun with newly-found friends in Kilkee.

Here’s Custy’s Music Shop in Ennis.

Here I am at the Cliffs of Moher.

In Doolin, I bought a Martin Doyle flute.

In Kinvara, Eugene Lambe showed me how he makes his metal headjoints for wooden flutes.

In Roundstone, I played the Martin Doyle flute, looking out the window of our B&B.

This location inspired me.

By the way, I played The Road to Lisdoonvarna on the road to Lisdoonvarna, but it was in the car, so I don’t have a picture.

Awesome pictures…makes me homesick!

Gerry

Awesome! Gald you’re enjoying your trip!

Awesome IS the word! Thank you, Jessie, for letting us “come along”.

Absolutely superb stuff Jessie - and from such a tiny camera  Richard must be grateful for at least one ‘thief’ in the world (in-joke).

Oh, There must be a fault in it though and I’m sueing you for making me look old, bald and overweight! OK, not sueing - just hiding, while I diet and grow my hair.

Lots of love

Steve

p.s. I’m sure I know that woman in the Kilkee photo!!

Great Photos Jessie,

Thanks for sharing!

JessieK:

You really know how to vacation, Irish-style. Looks like Richard does as well. Next time, you must lead us all in the Chiff and Fipple Emerald Island Pilgrimage.

I think I know that girl in the picture too.

I’m so glad you’re all enjoying my pictures.

Steve…yes, Richard is grateful for the thief. Don’t be so hard on yourself!! I’m sure you’re the only one who thought those things about yourself. Hmph.

 Jessie

Steve, you have a great shop which looks like a Department 56 Dicken’s Village house. It has lots of character and charm. I could see, that if you host some sessions on a regular basis, the world’s tourists should come flocking to your door.

Cinead

JessieK,

Please check and see if you have a message from me in your [Private Messages] file.

I sent one yesterday. Did it make it?

Thanks, Cinead. I got the message just now and sent you an e-mail.

Here are a couple more…

On the side of the road between Connemara and Roundstone, we found the boat from the Chieftains’ Water From the Well CD cover.

Here’s a session at Matt Molloy’s in Westport.

Very nice pictures! I too had my camera stolen on an Ireland trip… but I too got a nicer one than I started with

Erik

To protect the innocent (in this case the Irish nation) I’d better clarify that my comment wasn’t about a theft in Ireland

Steve

I better clarify, too. I wouldn’t want the Irish Tourism Board to have to press charges. In reality, the camera was stolen in that well known town of thievery and pickpockets, London (as I was passing through to Ireland)

Oy, gosh. Absolutely beautiful pictures! Thanks a bunch for sharing. It reminds me that I really ought to go to Ireland again sometime soon…

Cheers,
Jens

Jessie, please give us your comments about that Martin Doyle flute?

Richard’s first digital camera was stolen in Chicago at a hotel.

Ok…the Martin Doyle flute…

It looks very pretty…it has a flared bottom end (without the two extra holes)and no endcap on the top, but the top
is finished beautifully. The Low D note is not very strong, but everything else is, and it plays very easily between octaves. It takes very little air. It smells good. It’s lightweight. The coolest thing about this flute is the decorative ring at the bottom of the headjoint. It is an absolutely beautiful Celtic knotwork pattern of snakes. Really cool. I realized after the fact, when I checked Martin Doyle’s prices, that I had been severely overcharged in the shop in Doolin (overcharged by about $220). Geez. Still, I hand-picked the flute and carried it around Ireland, so I am not going to dwell on the money thing.

 Jessie

Thanks so much for the pictures. Someday, I swear it, I’m going to Ireland. I have a little special savings account where I’m saving for the day.

Aren’t these GREAT pictures? With Jessie’s permission, I’ve done something special with one of them:
