The Reavy Foundation, started by the sons of the great fiddler player and composer
of the past century Ed Reavy, Sr, have produced and supported the Irish Traditonal
Music Community both locally and internationally via the distrubution of the Reavy
compositons and tunebooks in both printed and open abc notation. The foundation
has produced some wonderful material over the last several years. The foundation
is a non-profit organization. The foundation seeks your support to enable it to

entitled “At Reavy’s House”. The following was written by Ed Reavy Jr., “Jim is one
of the most talented of the young fiddlers of this era. He is the best reader I have
seen in my time . He came to my house and sat down before me and my brother Joe
took his fiddle out, opened the Ed Reavy Compositions Book and asked us what
tunes we wished to hear him play. To say the least, this stunned us because were
sure he intended to play tunes he had practiced for this occassion. He played six
tunes which we requested just as though he had plyaed them all his life. We were
completely blown away by this performance and gave our blessing for this CD. We
are delighted with the finished product!”

The Music of New York Video represents a cross section of the talent
which has been a tradition in that area for generations. The Ed Reavy
Foundation felt that some representation of this talent should be
documented, so the justification was elementary. We wanted to present
some senior musicians/composers playing their own tunes (Billy
McCommisky and Sean Quinn) along with a young musician/composer(Brendan
Callahan) all playing their own compositions, exclusively. We then wanted to
present some younger musicians of great talent. Our last effort was to follow these
with the excellent very young musicians who are blossoming in that area today. It
turned out that it all came together as we had planned, thank God. We hope you
enjoy as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

The Accordion Video
A performance of old Melodeon players
From Philadelphia along with a stellar show on the old one row by the
great James Keen. For years, I have thought about the old melodeon players of my
youth. Most of them are dead now, but I knew that many of our two row players here
in Philadelphia started on the one row. I also knew that there are several who still
play that instrument today in the Irish
Traditional world. I also knew that the Canadians and
The Louisiana Cajuns play that box However, it was my discussions with
Paul Groff of Boston that intrigued me. Paul plays, teaches, repairs and
sells new melodeons. He filled me in on the players who play it
today. He also played one of the new melodeons he sells. I was blown
away, to say the least. It was then I spoke with my brothers about
making this video before the old players here in town are gone. The
ages of these players ranged from 72 to 80. I was delighted that they
consented to participate. I was furthermore delighted that Paul
Groff wished to work with me and supply all the instruments, God bless
him. I attended a gig in New York a good way back where James Keen was playing
and a man in the audience lifted up a melodeon and hollered out to James asking if
he could play it. James in his typically amiable way
said “Bring it up and I’ll take a wack at it, even though I’ve
never played one” or something to that effect. He played it
beautifully and it went over so well with the audience that I never
forgot it. I then had the audacity to call James and ask him if he
would be so kind as to join us. He said he would love to do it and I
honestly could not believe my luck. They will all be forever in my
prayers. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed putting it together.
