The floor is done.
For the first time since 1995 I have an almost-complete kitchen.*
I’ve cut my last cork tile, put down the final coat of poly last night, and moved the furniture back in this morning!
*excluding, but not limited to baseboards and window trim which can be considered the domain of an ADD adult with whom I reside.
Very nice.A warm and cosy look.
I had to look twice at the chairbacks - I thought it was the back of a Stereo or something like that..Doh!

What a lovely room! The floor is beautiful. I admire your ability to persevere. I would never have finished it in a million years. The windows are so lovely too. Your kitty clearly agrees!
Now that’s a room I could ‘live’ in. So, when’s the party?

This kind of cork comes in 12" squares which are glued to the subfloor with contact adhesive, then finished with 2 coats of polyurethane. I make flat cuts with a table saw, and fit around posts and whatnot with a utility knife.
Supposed to hold up well having been tested in most of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Usonian houses, many of which have their original floors.

Congrats on finishing it! You should be proud. The floor looks terrific, and from what I can see of the cabinets, lighting and furniture, you’ve got an excellent Wright/prairie style look going on in the room/s, of which I heartily approve. Hope y’all enjoy many good times in your new space…and now you can inform your girls that it’s time to stop lounging on the countertops and either become, or marry, cooks.

The male person in the small pic, with my 3 girls, is daughter #1’s bf. I understand he makes great fruit smoothies at college, but they tend to be spiked.
