Here’s a little funny story ( at least I thought it was) that I am half embarressed to even post here.
It has taken me a week to drum up the courage.
Here we go…
Every Friday night during the summer the fair city of Lancaster, Ohio host a Friday night band stand with live concerts. I just love listening to live music. The only way to hear live music here is to hang out at smoke filled bars. I have a low tolerance to cigarette smoke, and my husband does not like hanging out in bars. So, back to the live concert.
A week ago Friday we went to the band stand to watch a group. I was so excited about it. The group was advertised for playing songs from across the pond. I have only read that phrase on c&f and instantly associated it to Celtic music. The name of the group was British Invasion…
My husband is not as into Celtic music as I am. He told the children, when they asked what sort of music we would be listening to, and he said, “Oh, we are going to be listening to a bunch of Celtic hillbilly music.” I politely ignored that comment as we set up our chairs. He can have his opinion. He tolerates my musical interest and I tolerate his love of the oldies, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s music.
As the group was doing their sound check I noticed there were no traditional Irish instruments. There were, drums, keyboard, bass guitar and two lead guitars…hmmm… something was not adding up.
Yes, they were playing songs from across the pond, but, they were songs sang by the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Hermits Hermits…!
Yup, British Invasion… Am I dense ar what?
Needless to say, my hubby had a great time! And so did I. They put on a pretty good show.
What I thought humorous, was when the group was doing the sound check, they had American English voices, were dressed in every day clothes. When they came back on stage for the performance, they were dressed in black suits, had Beatle wigs on and spoke with English accents. They were local boys from Central Ohio.
