A discussion of how to play the whistle tone color variety

As is known to all, a lot of “wind instruments”, including the Irish wooden flute, by changing the Angle of the airflow, strength, and so on factors, to get more complex and changeable timbre.

Whistle because there are fixed in the shape of a whistle mouth, limited, but, if there is a more complex tone method?

To dig the biggest potential of this instrument.

Everyone according to his own experience to share insights and discussed.

I’m telling you my opinion first.

any whistle,in gery larson’s tourbook,Mentioned play must tighten the mouth, make the air flow in a straight line, rapid, stable blow out.
But another oral relaxation method, may need more vital capacity and breath, but can bring a languid is lazy, soft effect.

and “when we sould tongue”?

My point is, it is necessary to emphasize the note, placement of strong rhythm, and “triplet” the first note, and from B to the second octave D switch to each other.
Other places can not interrupt, unless you want to get some kind of special effects.

Recently I’ve found this to be a help in improving the tone of the 2nd octave, especially on my Waltons D:

Aperture: The tightness of the lips, allowing control of the relative air pressure vs. air volume going into the instrument. Requires a shallow depth. Particularly useful for taming the upper notes of a shrill whistle, and can also be a side-effect of angle and elevation, as mentioned above.

It seems to have made the upper 2nd octave a little easier to hit too.

As far as tonguing is concerned:
About the only thing I feel comfortable to add, considering my relative newness to ITM and the tin whistle, is that where you do it on the note played can give some nice variety to phrasing. Just changing the tonguing from the start of the note to the end, or vice versa, can have some interesting effect in my opinion.
