I just finishing recording the first 10 songs for our new c.d. I used my D and C
Silkstone Whistles and they sounded wonderful. Then on a few songs I used an
Alto Recorder and even did a few harmonies with a regular Recorder, just to make things
sound a little different. But, when all the
buttons were pushed, the reverb. added and the knobs turned, everything sounded like the
same Whistle. Is there a Whistle anyone could recommend that REALLY sounds different?

A sweetone has a very distinctive sound, if say played in comparison to an overton. But no doubt, many high whistles when recorded tend to blend in tone.
I might suggest using some low whistles instead. I think PVC whistles like Ralph Cooks are very distinctive from say Overtons or Copelands.
For inexpensive whistles, I though Walton’s Little Black b=whistle sounded (as well as felt) very different. The aluminium seems to give a little buzz, along with breathiness.
I just put down a couple tracks on a friends CD using a low D Dixon. Sounded great with guitar, fiddle, bozouki (sp?) and “foot percussion” If your in a studio environment then the sound guy can boost the predominant tones of the instrument so you can get a exaggerated sound. We actually boosted the high end overtones a bit.
