Ok, so it’s that time, went to the Bureau of Motor vehicles to renew my driver’s license and get the sticker for my plates.
The last time I renewed my license, they didn’t put my SSN on my card, so I knew I needed my SS card, too. Dug that out. It’s laminated. And - it’s not signed!!!
Ok - go to the place, they can’t renew my license because the SSN isn’t signed. Hey - I can recite the number to you. Nope, not good enough. I need to have something WITH the number on it. My current medical card doesn’t. W2’s don’t count. And I can’t just go and sign the damn SScard because I can’t get it off the laminate!
I dig around at home, and I found two things that show my SSN- and old medical card (that’s NOT in my current last name) and a form from current health insurance. I have NO idea if that will be good enough or not.
So - I have a couple of choices here:
*can’t do a damn thing today because the BMV is now closed. Will have to take time off work Monday to do this.
*hope that the two pieces of paper are “good enough”
*get a new SS card - which I will do, but will have to send in originals of my birth certificate and marriage certificate. And I have no idea how long that will take.
*drive illegally until then - license expires midnight Tuesday.
Oh - they DID sell me the sticker for the plates. So I have a legal car, at least.
And what the heck ever happened to one’s SSN NOT being used for identification purposes???
Oh, and did I also mention that they gave me the LAST driver’s license with this UNSIGNED card? It was good enough the last time.
I don’t want a pickle
Just want to ride on my motorsickle
And I don’t want a tickle
'Cause I’d rather ride on my motorsickle
And I don’t want to die
Just want to ride on my motorcy…cle
It was late last night the other day
I thought I’d go up and see Ray
So l went up and I saw Ray
There was only one thing Ray could say, was:
This song is about the time that I was ridin’ my motorcycle.
Going down a mountain road, at 150 miles an hour, playin’
my guitar. On one side of the mountain road there was a
mountain, and on the other side there was nothin’ - there was
a cliff in the air.
Now, when you’re going down a mountain road at I50 miles
an hour you gotta be very careful, especially if you’re playin’
a guitar. Especially if that guitar is an acoustic guitar.
Because if it’s an acoustic guitar, the wind pressure is greater
on the box side than on the neck side, because there’s
more guitar on the box side. I wasn’t payin’ attention ..
The Social Security cards haven’t said “for Social Security purposes only, not for identification” since at least 1987 (which is when I got married and got a card with my married name on it.) The current ones also say “do not laminate this card.”
But it is really dumb of Ohio to put in on the driver’s license!
I read someplace that there is a plan afoot for a standardized driver’s license for all 50 states. Can you say national ID card?
Just watch out when you come to Canada: we’ve just started the National Aerophone Registry, $20 per stick, high G whistles are prohibited, licence is extra. Send in the paperwork with all you’re personal information, and Haliburton will happily process it in 6-8 months at a boiler room in Kashikstan. GHPs are currently exempt from registration: it was an election promise.
In the UK, if you’d have started a thread entitled “BMV rant,” we would have assumed that the “V” was short for “W.” That would have made complete sense to the ordinary British motorist.
Q. What’s the difference between a BMW and a hedgehog?
