6 Possible Sources of The Hum

My poem, “6 Possible Sources of The Hum” appears on the website of Foliate Oak.

Thanks.

Thanks for the poem and for noticing. The hum got to my Mom more than once. When I started hearing the hum, I decided to give it a beat and a rhythmm. I have a soundtrack for my life.

Just imagine how big the words must be! :astonished:

I enjoyed that.

A real humdinger!

Very nice!

It’s God’s low whistle.

Probably a very big Overton.

Neat, it’s like 6 mini-poems
At first I thought they were going to alternate between humorous and
poignant, but “Solar Wind” did not follow that pattern, and “Listening to
Leonids” treads on jesting grounds…

I love the last line: “So much comes to us from our trembling.” But the
image of Mercurians turning up their collars to solar wind takes the cake.

Overton overtones. Must weigh over a ton, that whistle.

Or maybe just quantum foam.

This is the 3rd of six pieces, each with 6 parts which I hope will become a chapbook to be titled “36” or “6X6.” I’ve written 4 of the 6 parts. (6 Entries on Calyx, 6 Studies in Radiology, 6 Possible Sources of The Hum, and 6 Disorders of Sleep, although the latter is still being tweaked.) “Calyx” appears on the Ghoti website, “Radiology” will appear in Radiant Turstile, and then this one on Foliate Oak.

Oh, that’s just begging to feature one of your Flange matrices.

Understood. Although the flange matricies are 3x3.

The chapbook, if all goes according to plan, will be 6 inches by 6 inches.

If your chapbook is to be a totally custom job, you could get a little chip inserted into the cover like the Hallmark cards use to play a bit of that random notes stuff you like while people are reading. It would be like giving your audience the Total Wisely Experience.

Nice poem, Dale. I am not aware of the 3 x 3 flange matricies that you mention, but I too was thinking about a 6 x 6 graphic for your chapbook.

With regard to The Hum (the preceived sound and not the poem) I think that what we are dealing with is a paranormal phenomenon, not one that is easily measured or studied with conventional instruments. It’s possible that the elders at Taos Pueblo are fed up with all of the Texans who are moving into town and buying up property to build their time-share condos. Perhaps they are generating these prayer hums that only offenders will hear and find objectionable. Just a guess, mind you.

It’s been at least a decade ago, bu we had a buncha houseboaters over in Sausalito going crazy over a throbbing hum coming from the water at their berths. I think it turned out to be the love calls of a certain kind of fish.
