Yep…just had my big 50…just started playing the whistle in August…about 2 months now. Thanks to Brother Steve’s whistle pages, I was able to play a number of songs for my family…like Amazing Grace, Saddle The Pony, Stitches for Britches, and Wild Irish Rose.
Even did a couple of cuts and taps!!! I put “BYOEP” on my birthday party invitation…they had to guess what EP meant. (Bring your own ear plugs). Had many interesting guesses though…from extra pillows…to extraterrestrial partier.
Thanks everyone for the wishes!!! I was kinda nervous about playing in front of people…but I figured…at 50…I don’t really care what people think of me…I love my music and art…and I am going for it!!
Nice post Nancy, I turn 50 next month. In life you are either going forward or backwards, it it impossible to stay the same. Learning an instrument is the perfect 50 year old present to give yourself. I bought a 12 string guitar last week, something I have always wanted to do. I pray for the courage and determination, as you have shown, to learn the instrument and play in front of a group. It is hard. Wish me luck, and continued good luck to you!
Thanks again everyone!!! I guess it’s really not so bad being 50!! Parcour–I learned how to play guitar on a 12 string. Don’t give up if your fingers hurt big time. You need to get some callouses built up…once you have those, you are home free!!! Just practice often. Music gets to your heart…and it’s even more beautiful when you are the one playing!!!
Glad to hear you’ve picked up on a such a fine instrument! Took me forever to get used to playing in front of an audience, still makes me a bit nervous, but I just concentrate on those I’m playing with, and if I’m solo.. well… I just have to deal.
