Hello everybody. I’ve just discovered this forum and it looks great!! Fairplay!
I’m going to put my Sam Murray flute for sale on ebay next week. It’s a 2 years old blackwood D flute in mint condition. The 4 keys are (G#, C, Bb, long F). It has no cracks and it has just been serviced by Sam last week. It’s a powerful flute (a real beast!) and it has a great tone. I’m selling it because I’m waiting on an 8-key flute and, regretfully, I can’t afford to have both !!
If anyone wants to buy it straight away before I put it on ebay please get in touch - it’ll save me all the ebay hassle and it’ll save you a year waiting. I’m not much of a photographer but here you have some pics anyway. (I’ll try to take some better ones if anyone needs)
I’m looking for 1,700 euros and I accept Paypal.
Cheers
All the best
Sure, keys are expensive, and silver cost is up, and extra work for turning the block mounts. Hammy Hamilton’s price list, for instance, has a keyless for 850 Euros, a 4-key for 2200 Euros, a 6-key for 2875 Euros.
Hmm - I really didn’t realise that keys were that expensive. I have a keyless Murray incoming for 840 euros. Fair enough then, 1700 euros + no waiting time - a fair price for someone who needs keys on their flute
that’s really quick. but maybe you have an advantage as you are living quite close to him and could probably ask him in person, instead of being a faceless customer who can only place an order by phone or email.
No, I don’t think so, a keyless is quick and easy, the bread and butter of all flutemakers. Several people I have spoken to since got them even quicker after I got mine. I did collect it in person once it was done.
[Does Sam M make prattens? I’ve heard only of rudall-style flutes so far.]
Hi Jim,
About 8 months ago I contacted Emer Mayock regarding what type of flute she was playing on a certain tune (I don’t remember which one at the moment but I think it was on her “Playground” album) I liked the power and the “Honk” she was getting out of the flute she was playing. She wrote me back and indicated that she was playing a Sam Murray. So at that point I contacted Sam regarding his different models. He indicated that he doesn’t make a Pratten flute, only a Rudall style.
The tag of a “Beast” may be accurate in the right hands.
