$30 GBP for an Overton? ... or is it a Chieftain?

Interesting sale on Ebay.

Note to bidders: “The whistle was purchased as an Overton in Doolin County Clare Rep of Ireland but after comms with the maker of Overton they think that it actually a Chiefton whistle. It is still a lovley and mint condition instrument. Please feel free to retract bids if you wish to change your mind.”

definitely a Chieftain.

There’s more to the story here:

Well blow me down. A thread on this only three days ago? Well shucks. Sorry 'bout that. Thanks for the heads-up, Tony.

Yes in deed it is a Chieftian. I have one of these and it is a very nice whistle. I checked on the link Tony provided and couldn`t help but see the shipping price quoted to Cranberry. Outrages. The most I have ever paid for shipping on a whistle from the UK on ebay was 5 pounds. No reason to buy from this person.

The funny part is, it took her a few days to come up with that shipping price. I’ve had whistles shipped from the UK and Ireland the most it’s costed to ship is $5-ish USD.

And the price is back up past the price of a new Chieftain D…hey ho

It sold for $35 more than they would have paid brand new at the Whistle Shop! This despite e-mailed warnings to the bidders from some of us. It’s pretty strange that this person is referred to on eBay as “the winner”.

eBay never ceases to amaze me.

You know its very weird. I have made some great deals on eBay. I couple of bamboo flutes that were way beyound what I thought they might be. I just go with my gut feelings and see what happens. I guess I have been lucky. But jeez I cant believe what some are willing to pay for items. It`s like a feeding frenzy or something. :boggle:

Today I was watching a homemade pvc flute, and my gut feelings told me to bid, and I was going to late in the auction. But with exactly 1 hour 17 minutes left, my power went out for almost 2 hours and I couldn’t bid so I didn’t win it. lol

edited because my quote box screwed up.

There will always be those with more money than sense  .

Meanwhile, there are C and D tuneable Chieftains on ebay…a much better looking deal - no secrets!
