The shopping site Woot is selling refurbished Sony MiniDisc recorders for $40 today only. If you’re looking for a cheap way to record sessions, this might be worth considering.

What’s the general consensus on this one? I have no recorder, can’t spend much either-is it a good deal?
I don’t see anything in the write-up for a mic input. The only input listed is USB. Anyone familiar with this recorder?

Note that Ron is correct; there is no audio input. I suspect a USB microphone would do the trick for recording live audio, but you should probably research this before buying!
I personally don’t have one and don’t need one, so I have no personal experience to offer, except that I’ve done business with Woot before and they’re trustworthy in my opinion. Just seemed like a good deal.

Looks like it is one of the base line net mds - you can only record from your pc to the recorder via the pc.
This one does record (with suitable microphone)
Try looking for a Hi MD recorder instead - the 700 models (or thier equivelant in the states) can record through an external microphone.

Can you play-back at slower speeds for learning tunes you have recorded. Seems to me I have heard of this being possible with mini-disk or do you have to go to a solid state (flash) recorder to do it?
Playing back at slower speeds means you have to have a digital signal processor / software to do it (even doing it without pitch correction requires this in a digital system). It’s equally possible, from a technical point of view, with flash and disk storage, but any particular model of recorder may or may not have the feature. AFAIK, this one does not.
Thanks for the input folks, think I’ll wait for another model to come along at the right price.
