2008: a year in a hurry.

Jan 25th :Burns Night.
Feb 2: Groundhog day
Feb 3 Super bowl day
Feb 5: Mardi Gras, Faschnacht, Carnival, etc. & ‘Super-Duper Tuesday’
Feb 6th: Ash Wednesday (ok so its no party, but still)
Feb 7th; Chinese New Year (Rat, I believe)
(breathe)
there’s a few days to buy a card + make dinner reservations for:
Feb 14th: Valentine’s Day.

Feb 18th: Presidents day.
(which I suggest we rename ‘take your kids to work day’…it’s like we have to pay for having the 14th as ‘adult time’)

then we get:
Feb 29th, Leap day.
which in Feburary is useless: can we have an extra day in July instead?

Think you’re through yet? nah.

March 9th: DST- just in time to throw your internal clock off for:

March 15th: today everyone will actually celebrate St Patty’s day.
March 16th: Palm Sunday ( I suggest dispensing a little egg yolk, worchestershire + cognac along with palms)
March 17th: St Patrick’s day
March 20th: Holy Thursday, First day of Spring, Beltane?
March 21st Good Friday, Purim
March 23rd Easter
March 24th Easter Monday.

whew. think I got them all.
If I missed your personal favourite holiday, oops.
Just insert it for me & add it to the onslaught above.

Which leads me to ask

WHAT IS UP WITH THIS YEAR??? :boggle: :boggle: :boggle:

March 1st…St. David’s Day

It’s just one day after another! :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, and March 21st is Ostara. And the Vernal Equinox.

March 11th, my birthday, LOL!

AHA! the Pisces people speak!

And Bealtaine, Chasr, which word is the Irish for (the month of) May, occurs on the 1st day of May (Bealtaine!) or, if you are being particular, at Sundown on the evening of the 31st April, which is when our ancestors considered one day ended and the next began.

You are thinking of Ostara, the feast of the Dawn, with eggs and hares (NOT rabbits), which is March 21st. Along with Good Friday and Purim.

:boggle:

thing is, now April will seem soooooo long…

You stopped right before April Fool’s Day. Wazzup with that?

wazzup with that is I (personally) will be so sick of holidays by then I wont feel like celebrating anything! even a tax rebate!

Pascha on 27 April 2008! Though I’m not Orthodox and don’t celebrate it, I go to the Orthodox church nonetheless and watch the processions. It’s beautiful.

I plan to have cake for every single one of those holidays. I feel it’s my obligation, as a person interested in holidays. And cake.

And Feb is black history month. This is actually a lot if you stop and think about it.

Ostera- is that where Easter eggs and rabbits came from?? ( Hares, Rabbits- one rodent or another)

It depends who you ask.

It is indeed.

I believe there is a cult somewhere whose adherents will tell you that their leader died and was placed in a tomb with a huge egg to block the entrance, and a rabbit came and rolled the egg away, or something like that. But it’s Ostara, really. Goddess of the Dawn.
