Just a reminder that the 2005 Florida Tionol is steaming its way toward us. The dates are February 4th,5th and 6th at the Florida School of Massage in Gainesville. This event will be a tremendous way to escape the cold grip of winter and spend it warmer climes playing great tunes with great company.
The admission fee is $85, but that will change to $100 after January 1st, therefore early registration is a good idea. Registration forms and more details are available at:
just follow the links once you enter the site. There are hotels very close to the Florida School of Massage, and we will be posting that information soon.
As things become finalized, I will be adding that information to this posting. But, please visit the above link to the Florida Uilleann Piper’s Resource Guide frequently to check for any changes that may come up.
School of Massage huh? I bet all the piping clubs will want to hold a tionól there now! What a way to unwind and release the tension of a hard day att he regs! Good on ya Joe!
…The owner, Paul Davenport, has been very generous in allowing us to use his spacious business for this and last year’s Tionols. It is a great environment for an event like this
To the best of my knowledge nothing has been finalized on that front, but check with the site and click of the button for hotels. If nothing there answers you question then it hasn’t been arranged just as yet. But there are plenty of hotels, and most priced lower than the Paramount, which I also stayed at last year…and the name has a new meaning for me now.
…oh yeah, you might want to give Stacia a call. Her number is at the top of this thread at the bottom of the first page of the flyer, around the corner to the druggist, under the volkswagen, just to the left of…uh…sorry.
Just to let you know, the Superbowl is being held in Jacksonville the weekend of the Florida Tionol, as a result, rooms are beginning to book up in Gainesville. Now would be a good time to make a reservation.
Yeah the place we stayed at last year went from $50 per night to $65 per night. But at least we know it will be piper friendly. The nice man from India, at checkout last year, when learning we were there for a bagpipe weekend, said, “Oh why didn’t you tell me so; we would have had you play for us here in the lobby?!”
Can’t wait.
Rick
It’ll be nice to see ya again. Yeah, all around the prices have gone up a bit in anticipation of the superbowl crowd…grrrrrrrrrrr. As a result, we weren’t able to get a group rate anywhere…double grrrrrrrrrr. If those intending on coming to this tionol haven’t done so already, I strongly suggest booking a room now.
An update, JOHN SKELTON will be the flute instructor for our Tionol. He is a mighty fellow whose playing is nothing short of stellar…on a variety of instruments.
Our early registration fee of $85 is a permanent fixture for all Flute
registrant due to the late annoucement of your instructor (i.e. you can
pay $85 after January 1 as well, flute players). All other participants
in the tionol will be asked to pay $100 after January 1, SO PLEASE
REGISTER EARLY!!! We need your support and need to know you will be
there at this tionol! Its going to be a great time with a fantastic
line-up of instructors, sessions, concert, and dinner!
If you have not done so yet, please send in your registration and any donations you would care to deduct from your taxes this year. At last count from what I understand, we need many more of you wonderful people to come down for the weekend in order for the event planners to come even close to breaking even (i.e. not lose their shirts)…
Please consider coming to gainesville for your pre-superbowl irish traditional festivities.
