| 2002 EAST COAST PIPERS' TIONÓL | Photos © Peter Laban | The East Coast Pipers' Tionól will be held this year from October 11-13 in Rockland, Maine, a small seaside town that boasts the largest schooner fleet on the eastern seaboard, an annual lobster festival and the North Atlantic Blues Festival.
Joining us from Ireland will be Cork piper Máire Ní Ghráda (now living in Co. Clare), who was one of the pipers featured on the landmark Piper's Rock recording, as well as legendary pipemaker/piper Geoff Wooff, who makes his home in Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare. In addition to workshops, sessions and a concert, attendees will have an opportunity to enjoy the full autumn colors on the beautiful coast of Maine.
Joining our guest pipers are American pipers Patrick Hutchinson and Benedict Koehler, who will teach piping workshops, and fiddler/piper Willie Kelly, who will teach a fiddle workshop. Pipers will also have an opportunity to work on reeds with Canadian pipemaker Joe Kennedy. The Saturday evening concert will feature workshop teachers, as well as special guests. The concert will be followed by a session until the last piper drops.
On Sunday, more workshops will follow a late breakfast. We'll finish the day and the Tionól with a session at a local pub.
Registration is $65 and includes entry to all workshops and the concert, as well as lunch on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday.
If you would like a registration packet, please phone or email Susanne Ward at 207 594-5434 or <2ndread@midcoast.com>. You can also visit the website (not yet available) at [www.uilleann.com/2002Tionol for more detailed information and a downloadable registration form.
