200 Year old Blackwood (?) Silver keyed flute for sale.

I have the most beautiful wood flute with silver keys. It’s over 200 years old. It comes with the original case. Would you believe. It has a nice tone. And has 18 holes. It’s been repadded and it’s in mint condition. No cracks at all. I think it’s made of blackwood but I’m not really sure. It has a confederate flag stamp at the top. I spoke with a collector of instruments some years ago in New Orleans and he said it’s French made but made in New Orleans. I can email you photos if you wish. My asking price is $1800.

Hmmm… Don’t you think it would be made in the 1860’s? (I wish I was in dixie, hurah, hurrah) Last time I checked that would make it about 147 years ago. You can post photos by posting them on Imageshack.us and then just copy the “Hotlink for forums”.
Are some of the 18 holes covered with keys? There is only so many fingers.

-A hand-me-down from Aunt Bellum? The 200+ year age estimate seems off on the face of it due to no confederacy/no confederate flag as early as 1807. It sounds like an interesting flute
regardless.

The information on the age came from an instrument collector. He said the confederate flag on the flute dates it. He said 200 years but I’m thinking it could be around 150, give or take a few birthdays. But this guy as soon as he saw it, he knew it was made in New Orleans by a French maker. Anyways, it’s a beautiful flute with a great sound. And all the keys have a smooth action. I’m selling it because I want someone to play it. A nice musical instrument shouldn’t be kept in storage for centuries.

200 is way out of line for an instrument with that many keys.

Hmm…he’s also selling an old shakuhachi on the Shak forum:

I think pictures would be very helpful in this case.

It could be a early Beohm flute, 1860-? seems like the confederate flag wouldn’t be very popular advertising after the civil war, though…

Considering the offering price for the 18 holed wooden flute and the old shakuhachi on the shak forum, the seller really needs to present photos upfront. Without a history on either forum, more documentation is needed, IMO.

Ooh goodie! It might even be an Empire!
