1848 American/Irish Music on NPR

I had to work today :imp: but heard the following link on
Studio 360.

The show today was about 1848 and the discussion covered the Irish influence on American music at the time.

an example- Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye/When Johnny Comes Marching Home

Anyway, here’s the link to their site if you’d like to listen to the tunes.

I heard a little bit of this while driving yesterday. It was the simultaneous playing of The Old Rose Tree and Turkey in the Straw. I thought it was interesting to see how the tune had changed here in America. I think perhaps one of the reasons it changed is that the style of fiddle playing changed in this country.
