I’ve bought carbon offset shares for my cars (fuel efficient), although I guess time will tell if this concept is worthwhile or a sort of environmental plenary indulgence. I’ve done the compact flourescent thing. And, we’ve had an aggressive recycling program here at the house for some time. The new office building I just moved turns the lights on and off based on movement. So, of course, the lights go out in my office several times a day from lack of, uh, movement. What I want to do next is try to reduce the amount of paper and packaging in my life.
I’d love to get a motorcyle. I have a seven mile drive to work through a beautiful low-traffic residential area, for the most part. Don’t know a thing about them, but I’d love to own one.
There’s motorized bicycles out now, as well. I was watching a thing on tv about a solar-powered motorized bicycle. Looks like there lots of options for those who are partial to such things.
I want one so badly. But they’re too expensive for my blood. The weird thing is that if I wanted a car I could get loans to pay for one. But you can’t get loans for motorized bicycles, apparently. The world is strange.
Well, first we painted them this sort of peach color (which was supposed to be more tan than peach, but it was peach), then a few years later we painted them white, and now we’re in the process of painting them green. They’re not meant to be blotchy like that, but there are a few cracks in the plaster that need caulking before we paint those areas.
Solar thermal collectors? I would love to install some collectors for my hot water needs. At present it is LPG heated
I live in a mobile home (trailer in US?), which is not very energy efficient. But I heat with recycled wood: discarded whiskey barrel oak wood from the local whiskey industry, which I can buy ready cut, and free pallets from the shop which I cut up for firewood. One woodburning stove heats my living/sleeping/kitchen space, which is half the caravan.
I really do not want to fly any more for going on holidays, I will have to face a long drive and ferry crossing instead, to see family in Germany. But flights are so incredible cheap, compared to surface travel. Quite insane if you think of the pollution caused by it. But then the aircraft fuel is not taxed.
Well, no, actually. PV panels for electricity, but propane for hot water. In the winter we use a wood-stove for heat, but we don’t need to burn much wood to heat the house and keep it warm, because the insulation is so great. We don’t have AC in the summer.
