Latest Doran

I don't know if this has been linked here before but I just stumbled across a BBC local radio item about the latest piper in the Doran family and I thought it might be of interest.

I have a double Scottish smallpipe chanter made by Colin Ross. As described there are two reeds in a single stock. When I collected it from Colin we discussed the reed setting and he spoke of two views of it. His view (which I have followed) is that the reeds should be set so they are in tune with e...

Thanks for the comments. The plan is to expand the range of uilleann piping CDs as (...if...) the business grows. Part of the reason for the highland piping slant to begin with is basic economics...theres a bigger market and hopefully this will help fund expanding the UP and NSP sections in future. ...

Announcement:- New online piping CD store.

I have just launched an online piping CD (and DVD) store at www.bagpipediscs.com . The main market will be Scottish pipers but I want to be able to supply other pipers as well (and educate the Scottish pipers that there are more - and better - pipes out there). I do not have a large stock of uillean...

Wilkinson and MacCarty trained in musical instrument making at the London College of Furniture which was the main place for training instrument makers. They did not actually make furniture. This is a historical link going back to the days when furniture makers were the people who possessed lathes an...

Plastic Regulator Reeds

I have seen plans on David Daye's page for plastic regulator reeds. Does anyone have experience of using these or othe plastic reeds in thier regs? I have been having problems with the cane reeds in mine and would like to get them going properly, and this seems one option. What I want to do is break...

Piper needed in Rochester NY

Someone I know is looking for a piper for a funeral in Rochester NY in the very near future. If any one can give me leads on UP players in the area I shall be grateful. My contact's father has been ailing for some time and is unlikely to survive another 24 hours. Comsequently there is no set date ye...
